FANWOOD, NJ -- Family, friends, community leaders, and members of police organizations from throughout the region paid their final respects to former Fanwood Police Chief Anthony Parenti on Monday morning at Memorial Funeral Home in Fanwood and the Church of St. Bernard and St. Stanislaus in Plainfield.
Chief Parenti, who grew up in Plainfield and later moved and raised his family in Fanwood, a full police send-off as officers from Fanwood, Scotch Plains, Plainfield, North Plainfield, Elizabeth, New Providence, Union, Springfield, Summit, Elizabeth, Linden, Lyndhurst, South Plainfield, South Brunswick, Union Co. PD, Morris Co. Sheriff's Office, Somerset Co. Sheriff's Office, and Union Co. Sheriff's Office attended.
Chief Parenti served the Fanwood Police Department with distinction for over 40 years -- including more than 22 years as its leader -- until his retirement in 1997. He served as president of the NJ State Association of Chiefs of Police from 1989-90, was also president of Union County Chiefs of Police, and a member of the New Jersey Police Honor Legion, which recognizes the "Finest of the Finest" for their acts of heroism and valor. Chief Parenti was also a founding member of the New Jersey Police Traffic Officers' Association and served as its president for over 30 years. He later served as a Fanwood Councilman.
