SOMERVILLE, NJ – Don’t be alarmed. This is only a drill.
Armed with assault rifles and other weapons, dozens of police officers from Somerset County law enforcement agencies, joined by EMS and fire service units will conduct an active-shooter response exercise at the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital on Wednesday, March 20 from 7:30-10:30 p.m.
Law enforcement personnel will be be seen on the hospital campus wearing their full equipment; multiple emergency vehicles with lights flashing will be on the streets and parking lots surrounding the hospital and cancer center.
The Steeplechase Cancer Center is at 30 Rehill Ave. on the corner of East Main St., Somerville.
The exercise is intended to assist the hospital and law enforcement evaluate their preparedness for such an emergency.
Signs will be posted throughout campus to inform visitors and employees that an active shooter exercise is under way.
All normal hospital operations and visiting hours will continue during the three-hour drill.
