SOMERVILLE, NJ – Parents and their teenage sons and daughters are invited to a frank and open discussion on the ramifications of drug abuse and ways to prevent it at the Somerville YMCA from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
The event is free and open to the community; the Y is located at 2 Green Street on the corner of North Bridge Street.
Parents and teens will discuss the challenges and pressures faced by today’s youth:
- 1,699 residents of New Jersey died in 2018 from a drug overdose;
- Between 2012-2016, the number of overdose deaths in Somerset County doubled;
- 20 million American adults had a substance abuse problem in 2014; of those, 7.9 million suffered from mental illness.
The forum is co-sponsored by Empower Somerset, the YMCA, Pioneer Family Success Center and the SAFE Coalition of Hunterdon and Somerset counties.
Pre-registration is required online at somersetcountyymca.org/conversation.
