RARITAN, NJ - The annual Basilone Parade has officially been canceled for 2020.

The parade had originally been scheduled for Sept. 20.

"It is with great regret that we must announce that the John Basilone Memorial Parade will not be held this year," read a statement from the parade committee. "As we all know, the coronavirus is still a threat. In fact, in many locations, the number of cases is once again on the rise."

According to the statement, even if the parade was legal to have under the new restrictions, it would be unconscionable to put the generation that most takes part in the parade at risk.

The parade is scheduled to resume in 2021 with a weekend of events featuring a World War II themed Saturday night dinner and a 5K run on that Saturday morning.
