On this beautiful Sunday afternoon, TAPinto Plainfield decided to meet up with some folks for a jaunt around Duke Farms in Hillsborough.

We arrived early, so a bonus before joining our group was a trip through the farmer's market in the parking lot.  The market featured local vendors selling fresh granola, ravioli and meats, homemade jams, and more.  We walked away with the last jar of quince from Jams by Kim, and can't wait to try it spread on some Manchego cheese.

Duke Farms, a land of conservation and "a leader in environmental stewardship," was crowded with couples, families and scouting troops.  As we embarked on our walk, we enjoyed sights of waterfalls and lakes with beautiful bridges.  Our first stop, at the steepest part of the property, was Doris Duke's pet cemetery.

From there, we descended and made our way towards the Tropical Orchid Garden, filled with a grand selection of orchids.  The humidity inside the conservatory didn't deter crowds who were eager to photograph the plethora of flora in a variety of brilliant colors.

Our final stop on our tour was the outdoor sculpture gallery featuring marble statues along the walls of what used to be the Hay Barn.

For our next trip, we will tour the property on bikes so we can see more!

Duke Farms is located at 1112 Dukes Parkway West in Hillsborough.  The 2,740-acre property is open from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm; closed on Wednesdays.
