WARREN, NJ - A new principal was unanimously approved at the Tuesday meeting of the Watchung Hills Board of Education.
WHRHS Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Jewett thanked all who provided input to help frame the selection criteria, either in person at one of the feedback sessions or in writing via email. She expressed sincere appreciation to Frank Howlett for his service as interim principal, which will continue through the end of January.
Jewett provided the following background on Libera:
A graduate of Columbia University, where he earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, Mr. Librera has over 7 years of experience as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director of Chatham High School. Prior to entering administration, Mr. Librera taught high school mathematics, including AP Calculus and courses in the International Baccalaureate program. Mr. Librera has played an active leadership role in overseeing initiatives related to both social emotional and academic growth of students in the School District of the Chathams which makes him well-equipped to lead our high school in actualizing the goals outlined in our Strategic Plan. Mr. Librera's strengths noted in the feedback from the interview committee include a focus on the whole child, a student-centered approach to learning, an ability to cultivate personal connections, an open communication style, and high visibility and accessibility in his current role.
Mr. Librera will be working closely with our staff, students, and parents to ensure a smooth transition through the winter. I am confident that Mr. Librera’s leadership experience and demonstrated capacity for growth as a lifelong learner will allow the Watchung Hills Regional High School District to continue on our path toward being even better tomorrow than we are today.
