9th grade students-Class of 2023

The science department is engaging in a 9th grade school wide read this summer for the class of 2023. All incoming 9th grade students will be required to read the book The Martiana 2011 science fiction novel written by Andy Weir.

The purpose of choosing The Martianas a book for our 9th graders is to have them understand that the complexities of science can be understood at a basic human level. The Martianweaves essential parts of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering and Mathematics along with a basic human instinct-survival.

Teachers in the science department will be using excerpts of the book throughout the school year to enhance our curriculum. Below is a video clip that will assist parents in understanding book choice.

10th grade students-Class of 2022

The science department is engaging in a 10th grade school wide read this summer for the class of 2022. All 10th grade students will be required to read the book The Disappearing Spoon a science novel written by Sam Kean.

The purpose of choosing  The Disappearing Spoon is to give students a background on the periodic table and how the discovery of the elements encompassing the table affected the lives of the discoverers of those elements. 

Teachers in the science department will be using excerpts of the book throughout the school year to enhance our curriculum.

11th grade students-Class of 2021

The science department is engaging in a 11th grade school wide read this summer for the class of 2021. All incoming 11th grade students will be required to read the book Astrophysics for People in a Hurry a 2017 science book written by Neil deGrasse Tyson.

The purpose of choosing Astrophysics for People in a Hurryas a book for our 11th graders is to have them understand that the complexities of the universe in a simple way. Neil deGrasse Tyson is considered "America's Astrophysicist" and is the Director of the Hayden Planterium. 

Teachers in the science department will be using excerpts of the book throughout the school year to enhance our curriculum. Below is a video clip that will assist parents in understanding book choice.
