PURDYS, N.Y.--The North Salem Improvement Society and members of Boy Scout Troop 1 recently worked hand in hand in 90-degree heat to restore the beauty of the village green in the hamlet of Purdys by weeding, planting and mulching the triangle.
Procured locally at Harvest Moon, the flowers for the June 25 project were deer- and draught-resistant perennials that will add splashes of color to this community spot. Home to the Purdys Christmas tree, the triangle is the focal point of the hamlet and the site of many community gatherings, most notably the annual Purdys holiday caroling.
The society has been maintaining the triangle along with the plantings at the Purdys Post Office since 2002. The new partnership with the Boy Scouts builds on the society’s extensive experience and expands opportunities for young people to learn important skills while contributing to the broader community.
The society is looking forward to continued partnerships on volunteer services that give back to the community.
