Plans for the dilapidated gas station at 2 Fields Lane were approved last month, bringing change soon to the abandoned lot.
The North Salem Planning Board gave the green light to the developer, North Salem Food Mart Inc., formerly FuelCo, at a meeting on June 20 for its plan to build a convenience store and eight-pump fueling station on the property.
The plans include demolishing the existing service station building and constructing an 1,800-square-foot store—with pre-packaged snacks and drinks—in its place. The store and gas station will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
A 725-square-foot auto repair and towing building will remain on the property. The lot will be upgraded with new landscaping, retaining walls and fencing, improving the appearance of the site.
This is the second time North Salem Food Mart owner Joseph Bryson has gotten approval from the planning board to build on the lot. Last March, the Planning Board approved a site plan for the property, but then Bryson came back with a new vision, triggering the need to start the approval process anew.
