Dutt’s Goal Propels Somers/North Salem Past Mamaroneck B in OT

BREWSTER, N.Y.— Somers/North Salem’s ice hockey team split the week with a one-goal win over Mamaroneck B and a one goal loss to a tough Brewster/Yorktown squad, which was coming off a win over North Rockland.

The Sabers edged Mamaroneck B 5-4 in overtime on Feb. 2 at Brewster Ice Arena.

Michael Dutt (2G) netted the game winner on feeds from Cross Santaniello (2A) and Hailey Dineen (2A) with 3:24 to play.

After one period, Somers/North Salem found itself down 1-0, but the Sabers’ big second period gave them a 3-2 lead heading into the final period.

Mamaroneck went up 4-3 with 10 minutes left in the third period, but the Sabers netted the equalizer on a goal from Megan Dineen with 3:49 left. Nick Caleri notched the assist.

Brandon LaSpina (1G), Anthony Morea (1G), Michael Garrity (1A), Carley Bauckham (1A) and Ben Winter (22 saves) also contributed for the Sabers (9-8-1).

The Sabers fell to Brewster/Yorktown 3-2 on Feb. 4.

LaSpina gave the Sabers a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal but Brewster/Yorktown answered late in the first period.

The sophomore’s second goal on a feed from Dutt gave Somers/North Salem a 2-1 lead early in the second period.

But Brewster/Yorktown answered with two second-period goals with Connor Sullivan netting the game winner with 34 seconds remaining.

Christopher Graham kept the Sabers in it with 28 saves.

Somers/North Salem faces New Rochelle at 7:20 p.m. on Feb. 11 and then takes on Horace Greeley at 7:40 p.m. the next day. Both games are at Brewster Ice Arena.
