(YORKTOWN, N.Y.) --Seniors joined state Sen. Terrence Murphy on Thursday, May 25, for a senior health fair at the Yorktown Community Cultural Center.
Local health care experts provided free health screenings, including BMI and osteoporosis evaluations; blood pressure checks; and blood sugar testing. Specialists also answered questions on tick bites, summer health safety, and ear infections.
As an added service, seniors were encouraged to bring their unwanted or expired medications to the health fair for disposal as part of the Shed the Meds program sponsored by Murphy and the Yorktown Police Department.
“We value our seniors,” Murphy said. “They are a key part of our community. We want to provide a full range of services to our seniors and give them options to improve their health. This resource fair will help connect seniors with organizations that can help them remain healthy and independent, not only through the hot days of summer that lie ahead, but for  the rest of the year as well.”
