North Salem Soccer Notches State Title with Double OT Win

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — North Salem's boys soccer team defeated World of Inquiry 2-1 in double overtime to claim the Class C state title this afternoon at Middletown High School. It was North Salem’s first state championship since 1993.

Michael Bossi scored the game winner when he poked in a loose ball in the box with just 3:14 remaining after Frankie DiGiacomo sent in a direct kick.

North Salem (16-5) took an early lead on a goal by John Martabano, but World of Inquiry answered to send the game into halftime tied at 1-1.

Goalkeeper James Buzzetto was named MVP, spearheading the Tigers’ defensive effort with 28 saves.

North Salem coach Ron Hendrie was also the coach of the last state championship squad, in just his second year as head coach.
