Recently, Isabella Piacentino represented North Salem at the Tri County Science Fair at White Plains High School. She won 1st place in the Engineering and Technology category, winning a plaque and a $100 award. She also received a medal for placing within the top nine high school student presenters at the fair and was selected as an alternate for the state Science Congress in Syracuse New York on June 8.
Isabella’s project involves using a robotic arm that she built to complete motion related tasks. She uses the arm to compare robotic precision and accuracy to human precision and accuracy on the same task. She is connecting her work to the use of robotic arms in surgery and is hoping to make the case the robotic arms can be trusted to preform high precision tasks such as medical procedures. She will continue her research over the next year and participate in several science fairs during the 2019-2020 school year.
North Salem Science Research Symposium
