TAPinto.net is pleased to announce that Halston Media, owners of Mahopac News, North Salem News, The Somers Record and Yorktown News newspapers, has franchised four TAPinto sites in Mahopac, North Salem, Somers and Yorktown, New York.
Their launch comes on the heels of founding four newspapers - Mahopac News (2010), The Somers Record (2011), Yorktown News (2012) and North Salem News (2015). The four newspapers are mailed each week to over 25,000 homes and businesses.
Freeman said, "Halston Media has been searching for a successful and easy-to-use digital model for the nearly six years it has been in business as a newspaper publishing company. Halston Media partnered with TAPinto, so that we can have a successful online presence, and for the opportunity to grow our business and expand into other media forms to better serve our existing readers as well as new readers who prefer their news in a different format. We are happy to offer our advertisers the opportunity to advertise in both print and online, all under one umbrella of Halston Media."

Freeman earned his bachelor's degree in political science from American University and his master's degree in the social sciences from the University of Chicago. His original plan was to enter academia, but discovered his real passion was journalism.
"Academics can take a simple topic and in the process make it more difficult to understand," Freeman said. "On the other hand, journalists can take a complicated topic and tell a story so that everyone understands it. Journalism appealed to me because it's a product created for everyone to read."
Less than one year after starting his own newspaper in 2010, his first newspaper won the award for Excellence in Communications from the Putnam Community Service Network, which is affiliated with the Cornell Cooperation Extension of Putnam County. Over the five years since, he and his employees have won approximately a dozen awards with the annual Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the New York Press Association, which is the leading industry association for newspapers in New York State.
In September 2011, Freeman was elected to the Board of Directors of the New York Press Assocation and currently sits on its Board.
His print newspapers stand out for their hyperlocal coverage of the communities they serve. They have dozens of clients who have been advertising with them every single week, non-stop, since their inception.
