Rock band Gilbert, with members from North Salem and John Jay High School, recently won the high school division of Ridgefield BandJam 2018 at the Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, Conn., and the Battle of the Band at The Winery at St. George in Cortlandt Manor.

The members are Tara Curran, a sophomore at John Jay High School; Justin Giacchetto, a senior at North Salem High School;

Eddie Fiscella, a junior at NSHS; Wilson Yarnall, a junior at NSHS; and Owen Hughes, a freshman at John Jay High School.
BandJam was created in 2010 by three Ridgefield teens who wanted to help support the Ridegield Playhouse with a talent competition.

Local bands are encouraged to submit recordings and 16 are selected for live tryouts. From that group, eight bands are selected to compete at the finals in May.

The bands are grouped into two categories, middle school and high school. For winning, Gilbert got a $500 Guitar Center gift certificate, a Rock Show membership, a $50 Ridgefield Music gift certificate and the band’s named inscribed on the Ridgefield BandJam Plaque inside the Playhouse.

For winning Battle of the Bands, Gilbert received $1,000 and 10 hours of free studio time at AFA Studio and a Saturday night concert at the winery.
