The following is from the North Salem Central School District Superintendent Dr. Ken Freeston:

Until today we have been following State guidelines and basing the decision to close on notification of a confirmed COVID-19 case by the Department of Health.  It is important to note that while we still do not have any confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Salem, we are following social distancing recommendations and closing the North Salem Schools from Monday, March 16, through Sunday, March 29. The plan is to re-open on Monday, March 30, if it is safe to do so.

The April Vacation Will Be Moved From The Week of April 6 to the week of March 16.

We are following directives given by the State Education department and using spring vacation and unused snow days first to make up days. As previously announced, we will then apply days gained by converting May 22nd and the PQ parent conference day to school days.

Student Engagement with Learning

While typically we do not engage students with continued learning during vacation and snow days, we are developing distance learning websites to be launched Monday March 23.  Look for emails from our principals next week.

Internet Access

Next week we will distribute devices to families in need, please return the survey coming out later today only if you need a device and or internet access. We have a plan to meet these potential needs.

CSE Meetings

CSE meetings which were scheduled for the next two weeks will be rescheduled. You will be contacted by the district to arrange a new meeting time.

State ELA Testing

The State has extended the window for ELA testing.  In North Salem our new test dates are March 31 and April 1st.

Practices, scrimmages and games are suspended during this time period and will resume March 30th.

We have arranged for the Westchester Food Bank to bring their mobile food pantry to North Salem on Wednesday, March 18 and Wednesday March 25 for free food distribution for those in need.  The pantry will be on the MSHS campus, times to follow.

We are still holding the limited attendance performance tonight for immediate family members (up to a maximum of 4 seats) of only cast and crew members that have worked on or have parts in the production.
