NORTH SALEM, N.Y.--North Salem Cub Scout Pack 1 is spreading the love at its annual pack night, or first meeting of the year, Sept. 15.

Its  invited the whole town to participate in the “Kindness Rocks” challenge. The idea is to decorate a rock with an inspiring message and leave it somewhere as a random act of kindness.

The project has its own website and is all over social media. Pack 1 made its own Instagram as well, “northsalemrocks,” and is inviting participants in town to use the hashtag #northsalemrocks if they post photos to their social media accounts.

Den leader Jeannine DiBart saw the rocks while on vacation and was inspired. The idea was a good fit for the Cubs’ annual pack night, which will be held at Pequenakonck Elementary School at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, den leader Colleen Casale said.

Casale said participants should bring their own supplies, or their pre-made rocks, and join the fun.
She and the Scouts were at PQ’s open house last week, displaying samples of rocks they have already made. While how-tos can be found at thekindnessrocksproject.com, Casale has discovered a method through trial and error that she swears by using Sharpies and a sealant, such as Mod Podge.

After the rocks are done, Pack 1 will hide them around town.

Fake Narratives

“New shampoo,” she said with some excitement. “My old shampoo was terrible. It really dried out my hair.”

“What brand were you using?” I asked. She thought for a ...
