North Salem N.Y. - The town of North Salem announced Tuesday, May 12, it will be canceling camp this year. Read the letter from the Recreation Department in full:
Dear North Salem Day Camp families and friends,
The Town of North Salem Recreation Department hopes that this update finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe with your focus set to the future when we may all gather again.
After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the North Salem Day Camp at Mt. Lakes for the Summer of 2020. We know that North Salem Day Camp has been a staple summer activity for so many in our community for much of their lives and it is only after much discussion that we have come to this decision. The health and safety of our community is the most important factor considered when running a day camp facility. It would be impossible to enforce effective social distancing and adhere to other requirements anticipated by Local, State, and Federal officials in a unique camp setting such as North Salem Day Camp
Please know that we have considered every alternate and modification to our program possible before coming to the decision of canceling camp for the summer. Our hope is that by cancelling camp prior to any official State closure, parents might be able to find an alternative form of childcare and our staff may be able to obtain employment elsewhere.
Refunds will be issued to all camp families that have already made a payment. We will send more information on how you will receive your refund within a week. If you haven’t heard from us, please allow us a week to sort through all of the payments before contacting us regarding your refund (after May 20th).
We have many one-week specialty camps scheduled for the month of August. If we are able to safely run these camps, we will open limited registration. As we get closer to August, we will be able to make a determination. Please check our website regularly for all updates regarding these programs – www.northsalemny.org
We are grateful for your continued understanding and support. We hope our camp families and friends are doing well and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon!
