NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - A bear that took a detour through the playground at PQ Elementary School today, May 30, has moved on to another location but students will be kept inside the remainder of the day.

PQ Principal Mary Johnson confirmed at 11 a.m. that the bear was no longer in view but that the school was still taking precautions by keeping the kids inside for all activities.

The bear has been spotted in several areas around town.

In a Facebook post today, Supervisor Warren Lucas shared a video of the bear on Bloomerside from last week and it was spotted again in Purdy's yesterday and then made a visit to Town Hall this morning.

Lucas warned residents not to feed the bear, no matter how cute or innocent it appears.

The North Salem Open Land Foundation also urged hikers to stay alert while hiking any of the preserves.
