NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Voters overwhelmingly approved the North Salem School District's budget tonight, June 16, and voted to keep incumbent Trustees Andrew Brown and Kurt Guldan in their seats.
Brown was the top vote getter with 1,347 votes followed by Guldan with 1,234 votes. The long-time board members were challenged this year by newcomer Eric Buzzetto, who trailed with 953 votes.
Voters supported the district's $44.9 million spending plan with 1,383 voting for its passage and 581 against.
The budget calls for an increase in spending of 1.09 percent or $1.1 million over last year's $43.8 million budget. The budget prioritizes low class size, mental health and safety and security. The majority of the budget will be cover salaries and employee benefits.
