North Salem runners registered season-best times in 90-degree heat on Saturday, said coach Chris Gould.

The coach said he was “really proud of how the team performed under adverse conditions.”

In the freshmen races, Mia Santis, Isabelle Schembri and Jake Greenberg all medaled.

Gould called the meet, held at Six Flags Great Adventure, “a fun team building meet as we went to the park after our races were completed.”

Field Hockey (7-2-1, 5-0)

North Salem field hockey ran roughshod over their league opponents this week, defeating Irvington, Hastings and Briarcliff by a combined score of 18-1. They are now 5-0 in league play, having beaten Pawling and Rye Neck the previous week. They have now outscored their five league rivals 26-2 this season.

“The girls are really starting to come into their own and are finding the back of the cage more and more often,” said coach Jennifer Frohman. “The best part is that we have so many offensive weapons and are spreading the scoring around.”

She added, “We continue to have the same end of year goal: to return to the sectional final and win.”

Monday, Sept. 24

Leading the way for North Salem were Kiki DeModna (2 goals), Juliet Serra (1 goal, 1 assist), Kayla DeModna (1 goal) and Allison Eberhardt (2 assists). Irvington scored with just 52 seconds remaining, spoiling the shutouts North Salem keepers Hope Sandor and Caila Andrews did not make any saves in the win.

Allison Eberhardt had 2 goals and 2 assists; Stella DiDomenico had 2 assists; Kiki DeModna, Juliet Serra, Kayla DeMonda and Kiara Donovan scored 1 goal each.

Friday, Sept. 27

Allison Eberhardt had a hat trick; Kayla DeModna had 2 goals and 1 assist; Stella DiDomenico and Juliet Serra both had 1 goal and 1 assist; and Megan Marano had 1 goal. Hope Sandor made 1 save for North Salem.

North Salem went on the road and blanked Haldane, a league rival, on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Senior Mark Mackenzie (6 saves) and junior Dan Nesbitt (4 saves) shared in the shutout.

Offensively, the Tigers were led by Matt Cole (1 goal, 1 assist), Jonah DaSilva (1 goal, 1 assist), Caleb Elias (1 goal), Timmy Woelfle (1 goal), Marc Schembri (1 assist) and Jake Yoel (1 assist).

North Salem 2 vs. Putnam Valley 1
Thursday, Sept. 26

Paul Lulaj and Emmet Halton scored first-half goals for the Tigers, who held off a late rally by Putnam Valley to win their second straight league match and fifth straight game overall. Mark McKenzie made 15 saves in the win. Caleb Elias and Marc Schembri tallied assists for North Salem.

North Salem 0 @ Blind Brook 1
Friday, Sept. 27

A goal 10 minutes into the contest gave Blind Brook a 1-0 lead. The score remained that way for the next 70 minutes, as North Salem saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. Keeper Mark Mackenzie made 13 saves in defeat.

The Tigers scored three second-half goals in a shutout win over Yonkers Montessori Academy.

Jane Fetterolf scored the first 2 goals, both assisted by Camille Flayhan. The third and final goal was scored by Maddie Wagner, assisted by Rosie Binette.

Maddie Martabano made 1 save.

Wednesday, Sept. 25

Maddie Martabano made 8 saves in a shutout victory over Haldane. Lily Giuliano and Maddie Wagner scored goals for the Tigers.

North Salem has now defeated all three league opponents—Haldane, Pawling and Putnam Valley—by a combined score of 10-0.
