Occupying Former Nazi Germany

Editor’s note: This is the final installment in a three-part series of columns.

Now in late September 1945 we were finally in the right place to perform occupation duty for the Ninth U.S. Air Force. We were living at a former German tavern on top of a mountain about 11 miles south of the Russian Zone of Germany and as many miles north of the town of Bad Kissingen.

It's the Hypocrisy, Stupid!

Last week, just as I was musing on a topic to write about, there was breaking news in The New York Times about Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman, with his brother, of the Weinstein Co. Don’t Call Me... I’ll Call You

Nothing.

“Hellllloooooooooo?” I said louder.

“Can I have a tall, decaf, skim mocha Frappucino,” I heard my husband say. It sounded like he wasn’t talking directly into his phone, but rather from a galaxy far, far ...

October 12, 2017

NORH SALEM, N.Y.--The Croton Falls Volunteer Fire Department has come a long way since it was founded in 1892, when the community’s first first responders answered calls with horse-drawn equipment.

“It wasn’t the department we know now,” said Ted Daros, the department’s president.
