NUTLEY, NJ - The legacy of Nutley Public School's John H. Walker will be remembered Friday night with the 19th annual Walker-thon.
Considered by many to be a fundraiser walk, the event is a time for those who went through the Nutley Public School system to remember and honor the legacy of John H. Walker. The legacy of Walker is not limited to the students whose lives he touched, but also the lives of current students who will be among the ranks of those who receive the memorial scholarship.
Participation in Walker-thon is open to everyone in the community. The walk departs John H. Walker Middle School at 6:45 p.m., walkers head to the park, make their way through the park to Centre St, then turn on Centre St before returning on Franklin Ave to the starting point.

Each year, the foundation gives four $1,000 scholarships to graduating Nutley High School seniors to help pursue higher education Additionally, awards will be given to a boy and a girl from the sixth grade class in each of Nutley's elementary schools as well as from the graduating eighth grade class of John H. Walker Middle School. Each of the recipients will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card and a Walker Foundation pin and certificate.These awards will be made to honor the memory of Mr. John H. Walker who served as one of Nutley's best‑loved educators for many years.
Walker has been described by many as a man who exhibited exemplary qualities of citizenship, leadership, compassion, teamwork and respect. He took a sincere, personal interest in all of Nutley’s students. In order to promote and encourage students to strive for these same ideals these elementary and middle school awards for 2020, will be bestowed upon students who possess these same qualities.
All of the fun, and memmories, start at 6 p.m. Friday September 27 rain or shine.
