NUTLEY, NJ - The Nutley Fire Department responded to a call at about 5 p.m. Friday about a tree limb on power lines on Milton Ave.

The series of thunderstorms that passed through the township this afternoon had periods of strong wind gusts. One of those gusts snapped a large branch on a sycamore tree near the corner of Linn Rd. The branch fell onto electrical wires leading from a nearby utility pole to homes across the street.

The fire department used one of their vehicles to block and redirect traffic traveling west on Milton Ave. onto Linn Rd. A Nutley police cruise was stationed at East Passaic Ave at Milton to prevent motorists from driving into the area of concern.

The fire department was not able to remove the branch due to the high voltage involved. PSEG arrived shortly before 6 p.m. at which time the fire department departed.

In May of this year, the fire department responded to a house fire in the same area.
