BELLEVILLE, NJ - The Belleville Township Council has voted to hire Anthony D. Iacano as township business administrator, beginning June 3.

Iacano was selected for the key post based on his extensive experience in running local government, having served as a municipal business administrator in Weehawken, Passaic, Union City, Paramus and Secaucus over a 20-year span. He has also worked as a project specialist for the state Department of Community Affairs and taught classes in Public Management at Kean University in Union Township.

“In deciding on hiring Mr. Iacano, we reviewed the resumes of many qualified individuals and interviewed the best and brightest,” said Belleville Mayor Michael Melham. “What continually drew us back to Mr. Iacano is his vast knowledge of municipalities of our size, specifically related to public administration and municipal finance, as well as his strong communication skills. We know he can make an instant and immediate impact on Day One, ensuring streamlined, effective operations in every facet of our government.”

In his upcoming role in Belleville, Iacano will be responsible for the daily operation of township government, including the preparation and oversight of the municipal budget and workforce that serves 36,000 residents. He will report to the Mayor and Council on all municipal operations, including labor relations and contract negotiations. The responsibilities include oversight of all municipal departments, as well as budget analysis, economic development, and municipal insurance programs.

Iacano earned his graduate degree in public administration from Rutgers University. He is a State Certified Municipal Finance Officer, Registered Public Purchasing Official, a State Certified Equal Employment Opportunity Officer and a Certified Consumer Affairs Local Assistance Officer.
