NUTLEY, NJ - Carts for Caring, a ministry of Franklin Reformed Church, Nutley, will march in the Memorial Day Parade to collect non-perishable food for the Nutley Family Services Food Pantry (NFSB).
Members of the congregation will march along the parade route with shopping carts on loan from Nutley Park Shop Rite. Parade viewers can put their food donations into the carts as the group pass by. Cash donations will also be accepted. Cash donations are used by NFSB to purchase perishable food for their clients.
In 2016, six full shopping carts of food were collected. Additionally $300 in cash was collected along the route. This is the second year in which 'Carts for Caring' is participating.
Donations to the pantry drop in the summer, Additionally, families with children who receive free or reduced price lunch in the school system have a need in the summer. According to NFSB director Eileen Painter, peanut butter and jelly are the best items to donate for the families with children.
