CHATHAM, NJ - The Chatham Board of Education voted 6-0 to officially approve Platform Tennis, more commonly known as Paddle Tennis, as an official varsity sport for the 2017-2018 school year.

"It's the first varsity paddle tennis team in the state of New Jersey, and, possibly the country," Paul Ivans, Chatham parent who helped organize the team. "We've been talking to eight schools in the area (to play against) and they're all interested."

In 2015, the BOE had approved paddle tennis as a winter club sport at Chatham High. Less than two years later, it is an official varsity sport.
