Belleville, NJ -- The Emergency Services team at Clara Maass Medical Center held a webinar on September 17 to share safety protocols underway to ensure patient safety following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chairman of Emergency Medicine John Fontanetta, MD, who is board certified in at least three healthcare specialties, discussed signs and symptoms – such as abdominal or chest pains -- in which individuals are encouraged to seek urgent treatment and care at the Emergency Department.

The webinar included an update from the Medical Center’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Mary Ellen Clyne, PhD, with a presentation from Teresa DiElmo, RN, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services on the patient safety initiatives currently underway at Clara Maass Medical Center. The Emergency Department’s leadership team Donna DeVita, RN, Director; Bianca Michel, RN, Assistant Director and Eduardo Padilla, RN, Assistant Director provided remarks and expressed appreciation to the community for the outpouring of support received during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, Clara Maass Medical Center opened a redesigned Emergency Department with spacious, modern waiting areas for adult and pediatric patients; easy-to-access off entrance for patient arrivals and departures and a redesigned entrance with a single new walk-in/drop-off entrance; a new patient treatment room and a consultation room for private conversations between physicians, patients and families.
