MONTCLAIR, NJ - Hakim Bell, son of Robert 'Kool' Bell of “Kool & The Gang” funk and R&B music band, has grown up around music and funk all of his life. Musically known as Prince Hakim, he caught the DJ bug at an early age and would practice making beats and spinning records with his brother and cousins.
A resident of West Orange, Prince Hakim currently has an office in Montclair and has expanded his DJ services to the Montclair area. Most recently, he has been guest DJ of RISE MONTCLAIR, which was a yoga and dance party mash-up held last April at the Wellmont Theater and sponsored by Lululemon Athletica and Montclair Center BID.
When asked about his reasoning for expanding his DJ services into Montclair, Prince Hakim said, "I love Montclair, it's great town.... A lot of talented musicians live in the town, it's a great town for music."
In this past year alone, Hakim has also DJ’d at a number of events including SXSW, Bonnaroo Music Festival 2015, Art Basel in Miami and some of the hottest clubs in New York such as B.B. Kings The Gold Bar and La Esquina. Hakim has also DJ’d for the Clinton Foundation and the Carnegie Hall Notables. He has also worked with Deep Focus, Tory Burch, SPIN NYC RedLight/ATO Records among many others.
As a kid, Hakim would spend summers with music mogul Jermaine Dupri, who DJ’d in his garage, selling tickets for a dollar a pop, thus sky rocketing his career with producing and developing talent. Prince Hakim’s resume contains a long list of musical accomplishments.
He has had appearances on The Today Show, The View, CBS News NY with Kool & The Gang.
Influenced by the sound of the 80’s and today, Prince Hakim has traveled from New York to Tokyo sharing his passion, and spreading his message to “celebrate life.” Prince Hakim's genre/style of music is an open format.
He has also toured with “Kool & The Gang” as a featured rapper and performed with Van Halen and Kidd Rock.
In a short span of time, Prince Hakim has created a substantial following and brand for himself. With years of professional music experience under his belt, Bell said that he feels that he has much to offer to the industry and wishes to “celebrate life” through music and share his talent with the world.
