NEWARK, NJ - Officers from the multiple Essex County law enforcement departments made a series of narcotics-related raids that led to the arrest of 17 people on February 1.
Detectives from the Essex County Prosecutors Office and Newark Police Department executed several search warrants at the Oscar Myles Housing Complex in Newark's central ward. They were assisted by the Essex County Sheriff's Office, the Bloomfield Police Department, and the Montclair Police Department.
The search warrants and subsequent arrests were in response to a long-term investigation into narcotics activity at the complex. Several arrest warrants were also executed during the operation.
Prior to the February 1 raids and arrests, detectives arrested another 29 people during the earlier stages of the investigation. The earlier arrests were for a variety of narcotics offenses and open warrants.
The investigation began last year.
