NUTLEY, NJ - The chefs are doing their prep work, the musicians are tuning their instruments, and the tent has been set up in anticipation of the second annual "Garden Party" to benefit Nutley Family Service Bureau. The only thing missing is you. Tickets for the Sunday afternoon event will be available at the garden gate at 205 Rutgers Place in Nutley. 

Nutley Family Service Bureau (NFSB) is first and foremost a community mental health organization according to Executive Director Eileen Painter. When the American Red Cross left Nutley, NFSB took over their building at 169 Chestnut St, and the food pantry operation to serve those facing nutritional insecurity in the township.Painter and her team of staff and volunteers are expecting to reach more people with the food pantry. 

"There is always hope for those in need in Nutley, Painter said, "Right now we are not feeding Nutley there are about 400 kids in the free and reduced school lunch program, but we have less than 100 of them enrolled with us" Painter is working closely with Nutley Public Schools to reach those families. The thrift store, also located on Chestnut St, funds a large part of the food pantry program. Right now, about two-thirds of all food for the NFSB pantry is in storage in Clifton until the renovations to the pantry operation area are completed. Most of the food was at the Ciccolini building until a few months ago 

Painter explained that two years ago, when she took over as Executive Director, there were 30 households served by the pantry. Most of them were seniors. Today there are 190 household served 

'The Garden Party' kicks off at 4:30 p.m. Sunday September 23 and continues to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $60 and will be available at the garden gate.
