NUTLEY, NJ -  In addition to the latest clothing styles, hope and inspiration were on full display during “Walking in Faith” Fashion Show held Friday, May 11 at Nutley Parks and Rec Center.  The annual event, which returned after a brief hiatus, was a benefit for American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Nutley.

The Fashion Show was founded in 2013 by Nutley’s own Tammi Trible and is dedicated to her late-husband Wayne Thomas Trible.  Wayne lost his life in 2006 after a long 26-month battle with a rare form of cancer.

“The Fashion Show is an opportunity to not only honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost, but to raise awareness and money to fuel the world’s largest walk to end cancer,” said Trible.

Trible and event co-chair Christina Russomanno began the evening with opening introductions.  Bishop Peter Bruno Sr. from Nutley Abundant Life Worship Center followed with tales of inspiration and a group prayer.

An incredible musical number by Abundant Life Worship Choir with Taheerah Joy Allen from Dancers in Motion kicked off the entertainment portion of the evening.  Choir singers included Gabriella Salzarulo, Jillaine Gingerelli, Edgar Cruz, Jeff Chapman, Joanne Salzarulo and Edna Allotey.

Members of Ellis Dance Studio also performed two routines.  Participants who walked the runway included a mix of local cancer survivors, family, friends, supporters, volunteers and community members.  Kristina Cassidy and Jamie Thomas served as emcees introducing the models.

Closing the evening was survivor speaker Ellen Bennett, as the grand finale saw cancer survivors take center stage as balloons and confetti dropped from the ceiling to celebrate their fight.

“The Fashion Show is one of many functions that help us raise awareness and build community involvement as this event (Relay For Life) touches the lives of so many affected by cancer,” said Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci, Director of Parks and Recreation.

Guests were also treated to delicious appetizers, refreshments and dessert.  Live entertainment was provided by DJ Fantasy Productions, while Robert Frannicola from Ultimate Entertainment provided DJ duties during production rehearsals.

Tricky Tray raffles and Luminaria sales were also conducted to raise additional funds for American Cancer Society.  This “Walking in Faith” event raised more than $5,000, bringing the Nutley charity effort current total to nearly $65,000 for 2018.

An array of services were donated to support the event, including PartyPlease Designs, Photo Arts Productions Photography, and event lighting by IWF Wrestling.  Other sponsors included Essex Oncology, Nutley Park ShopRite, Little Burgers, Pretzel Factory, Pepsi, Luna’s Wood Fire Tavern, Rocky’s Pizzeria, Gone With The Wings, Hodges Party Rental, Beso del Sol, and Bucco Couture.

Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for American Cancer Society.  Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries.

“Momentum is building as we approach our 12th Annual Relay For Life of Nutley event on May 18,” added Tucci.

Nutley community leaders and volunteers have raised over $1.1 million since the Parks and Recreation Department joined forces with American Cancer Society in 2007, with this year’s big event taking place this Friday, May 18, 6 pm at DeMuro Park on Margaret Avenue.
