ROSELLE, NJ - Fire Departments from Roselle, Elizabeth, Linden, Union County Medical Units and Police, responded to a house fire on the 600 block of East Second Ave. in Roselle on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out around 2:25 p.m. According to one of the residents of the home, when she turned on her stove, flames came up from behind the stove area and quickly spread up the wall. According to witnesses ion the street, smoke was pouring out of the house.
Firemen quickly extinguished the fire and started ventilation. The husband and wife were able to get their dog out of the house with them, but firefighters had to try to rescue their cats. Two cats were brought out and treated with oxygen by the Roselle and County rescue units. The other cats looked to be ok but could not be caught.
According to fire officials, the fire was contained to the kitchen but the gas and electricity had to be shut off.
