NUTLEY, NJ - Cafe Sequel will not officially open until October 1, but guests of this past weekend's Nutley Family Service Bureau event 'Delightful Garden, Delicious Food' has a preview of what's to come.
Long before there was Jaret's Stuffed Cupcakes, Nutley was hme to The Petite Cafe. Run by the husband and wife team of Keith and Maureen Jaret, it became a favorite haunt of locals and culinary explorers alike. The desserts, particularly the cupcakes, were one of the most talked about items at the time. For frame of reference, this was the era when names like Sprinkles and Magnolia Bakery were grabbing headlines so building a business empire on cupcakes made sense. Petite Cafe closed to allow the duo to launch the now legendary Jaret's Stuffed Cupcakes. Accolades from Oprah Winfrey, Rachel Ray, and local news presenters are all a part of that history.
According to Maureen, Keith was starting to get bored after doing this for ten years, so according to her "we put the saute pans back in his hands!"
Cafe Sequel will formally debut October 1 when the branding will change to the new name. Those famous cupcakes will stil be available, and the other Jaret's locations will remain exclusively cupcakes. The initial menu will include soups, salads, and sandwiches for eating in or take away. Dinner and catering are on the horizon as well.
At the NFSB event, Keith offered samples of his 'Meatball Cordon Bleu' and the 'Famous Three Cheese Mashed Potatoes.'
