BLOOMFIELD, NJ-- A two car accident on Broad Street left one vehicle partially through the front of Mastriano Prime Meats & Poultry and another with major damage in the middle of the road. Two additional parked vehicles were damaged in the accident.

A witness to the incident, who declined to give her name, stated that it appeared that the "gentleman in the car had a medical emergency." That driver was taken away by ambulance. Readers should note that the red liquid on the sidewalk in some photos is fluid from the car, not blood.

Bloomfield Public Safety Director Samuel DeMaio reported that the driver of the black vehicle appeared to have been unconscious at the time of the accident. He was taken to Mountainside Hospital in Montclair and is reported to be in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle was identified as former Bloomfield Councilman Gary Iacobacci.

Injuries to the occupant of the other vehicle are reported to be minor. DeMaio confirmed that the two other damaged vehicles on the scene were parked at the time. Despite the strike to the building, no one was injured in Mastriano's.

Bloomfield Police responded to the scene and closed off Broad St. from Watchung Ave to Johnson Ave.

Director DeMaio reported that the call came in at 11:31 a.m. and units were on the scene of the accident at 11:33 a.m.
