Volunteers from the museum will also share their own experiences with the hauntings associated with both the building and the cemetery.
At 9 PM guests will leave the Holiday Inn and regroup at The Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum to begin the ghost hunt.
Steve Gonsalves, Dave Tango, Joe Chin and Bruce Tango will lead investigations on each floor of the museum– even the previously uninvestigated fourth floor. Guests will also tour the historic Rahway Cemetery by lantern light to visit the grave of the Unknown Woman as well as other haunted hot spots. Guests are encouraged to bring audio recorders, flashlights, and other ghost hunting equipment.
Each February, The Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum hosts the sell-out event, An Evening with Bruce Tango. Over the years, Bruce has caught some compelling evidence, including recorded audio of ghostly responses to investigator questions. In the Ghost Hunters line of business, this is called electronic voice phenomena, or “e.v.p.” for short.
Bruce Tango explained, “Often while we’re conducting an e.v.p. session we don’t hear a direct response at the time. It’s not until later, when we play it back, that we hear voices or even answers to a question. It’s pretty wild when you hear someone answer you back” Bruce Tango has been returning to the Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum for over five years. “Each year we get a hit on the recorder. The place is a hotspot for e.v.p.’s.” Bruce Tango added.
“We are excited to have Steve Gonsalves, Dave Tango, and Joe Chin join Bruce Tango for this special event. We are especially excited to see what they find on the fourth floor,” said Annette Satkowski, President of the Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum. Laughing, Annette Satkowski recalled “Volunteers have reported unexplained voices and other strange goings on up there. Some of our volunteers even refuse to walk up the st airs alone.” The fourth floor usually remains closed to visitors and has never been investigated by Bruce Tango. “The Museum Association wanted to give guests the rare opportunity to examine the haunted claims,” Annette Satkowski added.
