NUTLEY, NJ - The Nutley School of Music celebrated its expansion and grand re-opening at a new 2100 sq ft space at 211-213 Darling Avenue.on Sunday.
Officer manager Barbara greeted guests who numbered over 100 during the first hour of the grand opening.
The school’s student rock bands performed several cover songs from classic and current rock bands.
In between performances, several rock band members shared their favorite artists and bands with TAPinto Nutley
- “Greenday” - Nicole, Nutley High 9th grader who studies vocals and bass
- “Jimi Hendrix” - John, Bloomfield High School
- “Five Finger Death Punch” – Marc, Nutley High
- “Metallica” – John, Wallington Jr.
- “Too many to name just one” – Madison, John Walker Middle School eighth grader
One of the drummers, Mark, told TAPinto Nutley that he had been drumming for about six years. Mark is a sixth grader at Yantacaw School and hopes to be an instructor at the Nutley School of Music ‘when I’m older’.
Jeff and Tam are instructors at the school and started teaching as part of the school expansion staff. “The thing I like most about the school is it has very high standards. It’s a great place for kids and adults to learn all different types of music,” said Tam, voice, piano, guitar and ukulele instructor. Jeff and Tam live in Madison and Jeff expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome they received in Nutley.
“I never felt so welcomed. From day one, we were welcomed in a way we never experienced anywhere else before,” said Jeff, piano and drum instructor.
Bob, the father of owner Tom Harney, came in from Bloomfield and said he was there in ‘one 100% support of his son and daughter-in-law, Kyong.
The day continued with new and existing students and parents lining up to try their hand at different types of instruments, getting their Nutley Music School branded t-shirts and bags and spending time with the music teachers. New students also signed up during the celebration.
“It was a great day,” said Kyong Lee, co-owner of Nutley School of Music. “We got to spend time with many of our students, and signed up many more! We are so happy to be able to continue to share our love of music.”
