NUTLEY, NJ – Hundreds of locals turned out for the Nutley Chamber Commerce 5K Run on Sunday, starting and finishing at the town’s Park Oval.

Nutley resident John Gaffney placed first, finishing in 17:18. The 27-year-old – who ran his first marathon last year – has placed in the top three in many local races, but this one was especially an accomplishment for him since it was his first race in Nutley.

“It’s nice to come in first place, especially since I just moved here and was able to do well during my first race in this town,” Gaffney told TAPinto Nutley.

Nutley’s Michael Pawalowksi finished in second place at 17:30, after participating in the New Jersey Marathon one week earlier. “Since I had just run a marathon, this wasn’t the perfect effort, but second place is second place so I’ll take it,” the 27-year-old said.

Placing third was Joshua Goldschmidt of Passaic. The 42-year-old completed the race in 17:55.

Placing first among the Top Female Open Finishers was 29-year-old Laurie Bonchonski (21:57). 42-year-old Megan Julin (24:05) was the Top Female Masters Finisher.

In the age group of 14 and under, 12-year-olds Nicholas Devita (21:19) and Abby Kline (25:19) placed at the top.

72-year-old Otto Pinelli (34:38) and 77-year-old Constance Roberts (42:46) were the first place finishers for the 70+ age group.

Although hundreds showed up to participate and spectate, Barbara Chiarieri of the Nutley Chamber of Commerce is planning on creating a much larger event for next year’s 20th Anniversary. “Next year is the 20th Anniversary, so we’d really like to blow the roof off,” Chiarieri said.

For parents, the most difficult conversations to have with our children are those bred by necessity. Such is the case with regards to discussion about differences between Good Touch and Bad Touch.
