WEST ORANGE, NJ -- The Nutley-Columbia co-op ice hockey team struck twice in the final seconds of two periods and held on for a 2-0 victory over Scotch Plains-Fanwood at Codey Arena Friday night.

With 23 seconds left in the first period, Nutley-Columbia (3-1-1) broke the scoreless tie with a goal by Frankl Matrona, who was assisted by both Joe Melillo and Leo Carrillo.

It stayed that way until there were just 20 seconds left in the game, when Melillo connected on an unassisted goal for a 2-0 lead. Nutley-Columbia goalie Johnny Matrona saved all 26 shots that he faced, as Nutley-Columbia outshot Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 35-26.
