NUTLEY, NJ - The efforts of supporters of the Nutley Educational Foundation, members of the business community, and students came together Tuesday night as they gathered to fill backpacks as a part of the NEF 'We've Got Your Back' effort.
The second annual school supply drive helps families in the community who need a hand. In 2017, the NEF started the program to provide backpacks and school supplies to Nutley Family Service Bureau clients with school aged children in Nutley.
Donated backpacks were delivered to the the NFSB office. Others were gathered at drop-off locations in the township including Ka-She, Mathnasium, and Personal Touch Florist. John Monaco, owner of Personal Touch, donated 20 backpacks to the effort. Villardo's Deli on High Street donated four pack packs to the cause. Local author and STEAM educator Chris Masullo donated $150 to the project. Cash donations were used by NEF to purchase supplies for the backpacks.
In 2017, about 40 backpacks were distributed. The goal for 2018, 70 backpacks, was reached because of the generosity of the community. The backpacks will be distributed to students at all grade levels in the community.
