NUTLEY, NJ - After a hiatus of several years, Nutley High School's newspaper, the Maroon and Gray, came back during the 2017-2018 Academic Year. The Journalism class also came back in conjunction with new rotating drop scheduling.
For the 2018-2019 academic year, the journalism program will expand with the addition of Journalism II to complement the existing Journalism I program. The goal for the upcoming year is to expand the Maroon and Gray from a thrice yearly publication to a monthly news source. A 'Shutterstock' subscription will help make this goal a reality.
Shutterstock is a photo service that provides media outlets with professional photographs. News outlets use professional photographs all the time. It is where news organizations get things like photographs of ticks for a garden / health story, or various drugs for a story about addiction. The subscription will provide student journalists with the tools to make the Maroon and Gray about Nutley High School and the issues that affect the student community.
Karen Greco, the English Department teacher for both Journalism I and II, placed a wish on the Nutley Educational Foundation 'Learning Tree' for the $348 Shutterstock subscripton. Those wishing to support local journalism can make a donation of any amount toward the goal. The Nutley Educational Foundation accepts donations of any amount, from $1 to $1,0000.
TAPinto Nutley is proud to be a media partner of the Maroon and Gray.
