NEW YORK, NY - The National Weather Service issued a 'Hazardous Weather Outlook' for Essex, Bergen, Hudson and Passaic Counties in New Jersey for Sunday Aug. 2. The day includes a heat advisory, as well as the potential for severe thunderstorms and damaging winds.

The Heat Advisory is issued for 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, with the heat index expected to reach 102. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), "Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur." The Nutley Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad came to the aid of a resident who fell ill Saturday afternoon. Heat Takes A Toll on Residents, Nutley Rescue Squad Responds to Call on Franklin Ave. The NWS also reported that, "Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk."

The NWS also reported that showers and thunderstorms are likely Sunday, mainly between noon and 2pm. Chance of precipitation is 60%. There is also a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday evening.

Weather conditions are such that damaging winds may occur during thunderstorms, so secure those pool toys.
