EDISON, NJ - The New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home at Menlo Park serves local veterans and their spouses. The facility is run by The New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran Affairs and was built in 1999. It is a modern skilled care nursing home providing 24/7 healthcare. The facility is located at 132 Evergreen Road, in Edison. The facilities are open to veterans of all wars who served on active duty and were honorably discharged, the veteran's spouse, and to Gold Star Parents. Tours of the facility are available by appointment.
The facility provides residents with rooms that include televisions, phone service, and internet access. There are two special needs units for patients diagnosed with dementia and over 312 beds in the facility overall. “The Town Square”, serves as the center of the facility, is surrounded by a dining room, library, cooking classroom, meeting rooms, and a Chapel.
Along with these amenities, residents are assisted by full time nurses and physicians, who provide rehabilitative services such as physical therapy and occupational therapy. Other health services offered at the facility include dental, podiatric medicine, dermatology, and ophthalmology. The facility also offers support groups and counseling services. Therapy services are prescribed by a physician, with the cost depending on insurance coverage. The facility works to attend to special dietary needs as well. The Food Service Department provides residents with full time dietitians and menu choices that accommodate special diets.
According to the facility, residents have the opportunity to participate in various activities which “simulates involvement, self-esteem, productivity, and freedom for independent choices.” These activities include coffee socials, musical entertainment, bingo, arts and crafts, and much more.
