NUTLEY, NJ - On a spectacular evening for a game, Nutley defeated Caldwell by a score of 15 to nothing in the 7th and 8th Grade Girls Softball Suburban Essex League Championship played on Thursday, May 24, at Owens Park in Nutley, NJ.

Both teams advanced to the finals after winning semifinal games on Tuesday, May 22.  Nutley hadn’t won the Suburban Essex League Championship since 1991.

Fueled by a 13-hit attack, as well as costly Caldwell errors, Nutley jumped out in front early and scored 8 runs in the first inning, 4 in the second, and 3 in the third.

Caldwell, who was overpowered, only managed one hit.  The game was conceded by the Caldwell coach after three innings of play. 

Coming into the contest, Nutley had a 12-0 record, while Caldwell was 9-3.

Nutley, with a perfect record, defeated Caldwell twice in the regular season.  Caldwell’s only other regular season loss was to Cedar Grove. Tonight's game was the last for Coach Juan Echevarria.
