NUTLEY, NJ - The Nutley Board of Education annual meeting, to present the 2019-2020 budget for the Nutley Public Schools District was held Monday May 6 in the John H. Walker Middle School Auditorium.

All board of education members except Teri Quirk and Salvatore Ferraro were present for the meeting. 

Highlights of the budget include a reduction of $105K in instruction supplies and textbooks, a 31K reduction in requests for furniture, $154K reduction in technology equipment, and $21K reduction in athletics. Personnel restructuring will result in a reduction of $1.25 million.

The 2019-2020 budget does include three new programs aimed at Special Needs / Autism students including a Kindergarten ABA program, Preschool Disabilities, and the Nutley High School R.I.S.E program.

The 2019-2020 Nutley Public Schools Budget is $73,260,461. $60,449,059 of the budget will be funded by the tax levy.

All Nutley Board of Education trustees voted in favor of the 2019-2020 budget except Ken Reilly, who voted no. Quirk and Ferraro were not present and did not vote. 

There were no public comments about the budget. 

In the open comment portion at the end of the meeting, students from the district took to the microphone to speak positively about how teachers in the district have played, and continue to play, a critical role in their lives. Nutley Public School teachers and the district are currently negotiating their contract.


Since 2016,  has been the only locally owned news organization serving the Township of Nutley, and is a member of the New Jersey Press Association. The Nutley Board of Commissioners made the township's 'Official Electronic News Source' starting in 2019.
