NUTLEY, NJ - The Nutley Girls Seventh and Eighth Grade Softball Team were honored during the June 19 Board of Commissioners’ public meeting.
The Nutley Girls Seventh and Eighth Grade Softball Team, the Suburban Softball Division and League Champions for first time since 1991, was presented a resolution by the Board of Commissioners. The team has won all 14 games this season, while outscoring their opponents, 189 runs to 44.
Under the direction of head coach Juan Echevarria and assistant coaches Mike Garner and John Cicchetti, the teammates are Rebecca Echevarria, Rachel Echevarria, Mackenzie Albert, Nicole Lopez, Giuliana Fazio, Lia DeMaio, Nikki Cicchetti, Sydney Hess, Kayla Giachetti, Jenna Garner, Mia DiPiano, Isabel Saccente and Victoria Rutnik.
Public Affairs Commissioner Steven L. Rogers said, “[…] Thank you for making us a shining star. Parents, thank you, you do much. You know not enough is said for parents and guardians that take so much time and so much effort building a character of your children through these sports program.”
Revenue and Finance Commissioner Thomas J. Evans said, “Congratulations, and wow, thank you for bringing home this title, it’s been away from us since . Let’s keep the trend going.”
Public Safety Commissioner Alphonse Petracco said, “It’s the relationships that you foster on these fields, that probably you girls will be spending a long time in the future together and the parents as well, all the friends and friendships you make going to the games and traveling. …13 and 0 is an incredible record.”
Mayor and Commissioner Joseph P. Scarpelli said, “[…] The girls that you win with and you lose with and you laugh with and you cry with. It doesn’t look like you guys did any losing or any crying; so those are the friendships that you forge over the time you spent together on the field.”
A banner honoring the team will be hung in the gym of the parks department at 44 Park Ave.
