NUTLEY, NJ - Resident Molly Dodd won first place at the township’s second annual Peach Pie Contest held on Aug. 6 at Nutley Farmers Market in Municipal Lot 1. Anita Angotti received second place with her Jersey peach pie with bourbon and Anita Gibaldi earned third place with her old fashioned country peach pie.
Nine residents competed in Nutley’s contest. They were all delicious according to Nutley Mayor Joseph P. Scarpelli.
Dodd found the recipe on a Sally’s Baking Addiction website. “I modified a blueberry peach pie recipe and chose not to use blueberries; kept it special though. I used about eight peaches that I purchased from a supermarket,” she said.
“It is the first time making the pie and entering the contest. It was a lot of fun; I didn’t plan or expect to win. I will definitely be doing this again next year, I won’t be making this pie though to give others a chance to win,” said Dodd.
Dodd is one of eight regional finalists who will go on to compete for a $300 grand prize. A winner will be selected from both North Jersey and South Jersey, each receiving the same prize amount.
The contest itself is in its fifth year and sponsored by the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council. According to Jersey Peaches - jerseypeaches.com, this year New Jersey is second in peach production.
