NUTLEY, NJ - Still enjoying the spoils of victory after slaying the competition at the TaxSlayer bowl in December, the Nutley High School band sets their sites on fighting cancer by forming a Relay for Life team.
Members of the band will spend the next several months raising funds and pledges for the American Cancer Society. On May 18, teams will camp out at De Muro Park in Nutley, with at least one member of each team on the track at all times "because cancer never sleeps."
The Raiders Marching Band performed at half-time at the TaxSlayer Bowl (formerly the Gator Bowl) in Jacksonville Florida in December. They captured awards awards for best percussion, best color guard, best music, marching and maneuvering , and overall general effect. They also took home 'Best Overall Group 2A.'
Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for American Cancer Society. The event is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. This marks the 12th year Nutley is hosting Relay and it takes place Friday, May 18 at , 6 p.m.at DeMuro Park.
