NUTLEY, NJ – Members of the community got to meet Nutley Irish American Association's 2019 Parade Dignitaries during the 2nd Annual Shamrock Fest dinner this past Saturday evening at the Parks and Recreation Center.
The event, catered by the Brownstone, served as a fundraiser to help support the 41st Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade set to take place Saturday, March 2, 2019.
Live entertainment was provided, and the evening also included a bagpiper, dancing and raffle drawings.
“I want to thank our committee for putting on this party here, it takes a lot of work,” said Nutley Irish President Thomas McEnery. “Thanks to Commissioner Mauro Tucci and the parks staff for setting everything up, they’ve always been big supporters of ours.”
Parade Dignitaries include Grand Marshal Ed Saegers, Deputy Grand Marshal Noreen Haveron, Member of the Year Allen Magill, Firefighter of the Year Battalion Chief Rich Cavanagh, and Parade Queen Kellie Cole.
“It’s not easy picking our Parade Dignitaries, as we start the day after the parade and we go though all the names (under consideration) in thinking about next year – it’s a lot of work and it’s hard to pick,” McEnery explained.
Nutley Irish is one of the township's premier civic associations and they have organized the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Nutley since 1979.
“It’s going to be a great season and I am honored to be Grand Marshal in the 2019 Nutley Parade,” said Ed Saegers.
The group will be hosting another fundraising dinner in February at the Brownstone in Paterson.
