NUTLEY, NJ - The Nutley Little Theatre (NLT) will host a mix of classic and new plays for the 2019-2020 season, its 85th in the township. The roster of dramas are aimed at entertaining people of all ages with actors from across the Garden State.
 
The season opens on September 13 with Joshua Harmon's Significant Other. The performance will benefit New Jersey Buddies.

Significant Other is being directed by Ron Mulligan of Parsippany, the show features actors Alyssum D’Aoust of Bloomfield, William Harper of Roseland, Patrick McAndrew of Bayonne, Emily McSpadden of Bergenfield, Nicole Mercedes of Passaic, and Florence Pape of Hoboken in this comedy about a young man and his friends looking for love.  Jordan Berman would love to be in love, but until he meets Mr. Right, he wards off lonely nights with his trio of close girlfriends. Intended for mature audiences, this show’s performances will run Sept. 13, 14, 20, 21, 26, 27 & 28 at 8 pm; Sept. 15, 22 & 28 at 2 pm.

 
Nutley Little Teatre's November show is The Commons of Pensacola, by Amanda Peet and directed by Amy Sellars.  
 

Guilt by association, lost wealth and questionable motives make trying to love your family an uncommonly difficult challenge in this funny and incisive drama, inspired by the Bernie Madoff scandal.
 
Auditions for The Commons of Pensacola will be held on September 15th and 16th at 7:30 pm. Performances are on Nov. 8, 9, 15, 16, 21, 22 & 23 at 8 pm; Nov. 10, 17 & 23 at 2 pm. The opening night performance will benefit Oasis.   
 
Continuing its tradition of presenting alternatives to the usual holiday fare, in December NLT will hold its annual fundraiser with the show Love Letters, by A.R. Gurney and directed by Gina Sarno.
 
In this community theatre favorite, two best friends read the notes, letters and cards that they’ve written to each other for over 50 years about their dreams and disappointments. Shows will be on Dec. 13, 14, 20 & 21 at 8 pm; Dec. 15 & 21 at 2 pm, with all proceeds going to benefit NLT. 
 
In 2020, the original “rom-com” comes to NLT in Much Ado about Nothing, by William Shakespeare and directed by Alex Oleksij. Beatrice and Benedick hate each other so much - they must be in love!
 
Benefitting the Franklin Reformed Church, this classic opens on Feb 7th at 8pm, with performances on Feb. 8, 14, 15, 20, 21 & 22 at 8 pm; Feb. 9, 16 & 22 at 2 pm. Auditions will be held on November 10 and 11, 2019, at 7:30 pm.
 
The theatre’s spring production is Clark Gable Slept Here, a riotous farce written by Michael McKeever and directed by Helen Exel. Sex, drugs and a dead escort are challenges for the hotel manager to sweep under the rug on the night of the Golden Globes in this hilarious comedy running April 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 & 25 at 8 pm; April 19 & 25 at 2 pm.
 
Opening night benefits the Bloomfield Animal Shelter. Auditions will take place on February 9 and 10 at 7:30 pm.
 
The final show of the season will be Amadeus by Peter Shaffer and directed by Beatriz Estaban-Messina.
 
This Tony Award-winning play was made into an Oscar-winning movie.  Though set in the 18th century, Amadeus is a timeless story of the destructive nature of jealousy, divine unfairness, self-worth, and man's unforgiving rage. Auditions are on April 11 at 1:30 pm and April 13 at 7:30 pm. Play dates are June 12, 13, 19, 20, 25, 26 & 27 at 8 pm; June 14, 21 & 27 at 8 pm, with the first performance benefitting the Nutley Family Service Bureau.
